# Claude Code

> Connect Claude Code to the Sevalla MCP server with one command, sign in with OAuth or an API key, check the connection, and remove it.

Claude Code connects to the [Sevalla MCP server](/ai-agents/overview) at `https://mcp.sevalla.com/mcp` as a remote HTTP server. Once connected, Claude Code can deploy, read logs and metrics, and manage your Sevalla services from the chat.

## Before you begin

* A Sevalla account and a company to work in.
* Claude Code installed. See the [Claude Code MCP docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp) for its own options.

## Add the server

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add Sevalla">
    In a terminal, run:

    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user sevalla https://mcp.sevalla.com/mcp
    ```

    `--scope user` makes Sevalla available in all your projects. Leave it out to add the server to the current project only, or use `--scope project` to write it to `.mcp.json` and share it with your team.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Start Claude Code, type `/mcp`, select **sevalla** and choose **Authenticate**. Your browser opens the Sevalla dashboard: pick the company and the permissions, then click **Authorize** ([what each choice means](/ai-agents/overview#sign-in-with-oauth)).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Check the connection

Run `claude mcp list` to see `sevalla` and its connection status. In Claude Code, `/mcp` lists **sevalla** with its tools. Ask "List my Sevalla services" to make a first call.

## Use an API key instead

To skip OAuth, for example on a shared machine or in CI, send an [API key](/developer-tools/api-keys) in a header. Put the server in `.mcp.json` at the root of your project and read the key from an environment variable, so the file holds no secret:

```json .mcp.json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "sevalla": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.sevalla.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${SEVALLA_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Then set the variable before you start Claude Code:

```bash theme={null}
export SEVALLA_API_KEY="svl_..."
claude
```

<Warning>
  Don't pass the key with `claude mcp add --header`: the shell expands it and Claude Code stores the plain key in its configuration file. Never commit a real key.
</Warning>

## Remove the server

Run:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp remove sevalla
```

If you added the server with a scope, name it: `claude mcp remove --scope user sevalla`. Removing a remote server also deletes its stored OAuth token. To sign out but keep the server, type `/mcp`, select **sevalla** and choose **Clear authentication**.

Removing the server doesn't delete the API key that sign-in created. To revoke it, [delete the key](/developer-tools/api-keys#delete-an-api-key) under **Tools** > **API keys**.
