# Payment methods and invoices

> Add, change or remove the card Sevalla charges, update billing details and tax IDs, and view or download invoices in the Stripe customer portal or the Billing page.

The **Billing** page is where a company manages how it pays. Payment methods, billing details, tax IDs and invoices live in the Stripe customer portal, which **Manage billing** opens. The page itself shows past due invoices, credits, invoices from before May 1, 2026, and the option to delete the company.

## Before you begin

* You need the **Company owner**, **Company admin** or **Company billing** role. Other people get **You don't have access to billing**.
* Only the company owner sees the **Danger zone** with **Delete company**.

## The Billing page

In the sidebar, under **Company**, click **Billing**. From top to bottom, the page shows:

| Card | When it shows | What it's for |
| - | - | - |
| **Past due invoices** | When an invoice is unpaid after a failed charge | Invoice date, period and amount due of each unpaid invoice, and **Pay in billing portal**. See [Failed payments](https://docs.sevalla.com/billing/failed-payments.md). |
| **Billing & payment methods** | Always | **Manage billing** opens the Stripe customer portal |
| **Credits** | While the company has credit | **available credits** and the days **until credit expiry**. See [Free credit](https://docs.sevalla.com/billing/overview.md#free-credit). |
| **Historical invoices** | When the company has invoices from before May 1, 2026, the newest less than 12 months old | View and download those invoices. See [Historical invoices](#historical-invoices). |
| **Danger zone** | For the company owner | **Delete company**. See [Companies](https://docs.sevalla.com/company/overview.md). |

## Add your first payment method

A new company can't use any resources until it has a card and billing details on file. Right after you create a company, the dashboard shows **Last step before using Sevalla**:

**1. Enter the card**

Under **Payment method**, enter the **Card holder name** and the **Card details**.

**2. Enter the billing details**

Under **Billing details**, enter the **Name** (the company or person invoices are made out to), **Country**, **State** (**County** in the United Kingdom, **Province** in Canada), **City**, **ZIP** and **Address line 1**. **Address line 2** is optional.

**3. Finish**

Click **Complete setup**. Stripe verifies the card, with 3D Secure if your bank asks for it, without charging it.

The toast **Setup complete. Welcome to Sevalla.** confirms it. If the card is declined, the form shows why, for example `Your card was declined. Try another card, or contact your bank.`, and **Try again** takes you back to the form.

If a company has a card but no billing details, the dashboard shows **Billing details required** with the same address fields and **Save billing details**. People without billing access see **Payment method required** or **Billing details required** and need to ask a company owner, admin or billing user.

## Open the Stripe customer portal

On the **Billing** page, click **Manage billing**. The portal opens in a new tab, signed in to your company's billing account. Each click creates a new portal session, so open the portal from the dashboard each time rather than from a bookmark. If it can't open, the dashboard shows `Unable to open billing portal`: try again in a moment.

In the portal you can:

* Add, remove and choose the default payment method.
* Update the billing name and address.
* Add or remove [tax IDs](https://docs.sevalla.com/billing/taxes.md#add-a-tax-id).
* See and download invoices and receipts, and pay unpaid invoices.

## Manage payment methods

Sevalla charges the company's default card on the 1st of each month. Only the default card is charged: other cards on file aren't used if the default one fails.

**1. Open the portal**

On the **Billing** page, click **Manage billing**.

**2. Add a card**

Click **Add payment method**, enter the card details, and choose to make it the default.

**3. Change the default card**

To make another card the default, open its menu and click **Make default**.

**4. Remove a card**

Open a card's menu and click **Delete**. To remove the default card, first make another card the default.

To change a card's number, expiry date or holder name, add it as a new card and delete the old one.

When the default card has expired, a **Payment method expired** button appears at the top of the dashboard. Click it, then **Manage billing**, and add a new default card before the next charge on the 1st.

## Update billing details

The billing name and address appear on every invoice and determine the [tax](https://docs.sevalla.com/billing/taxes.md) Sevalla charges. Sevalla needs at least address line 1, city, postal code and country.

**1. Open the portal**

On the **Billing** page, click **Manage billing**.

**2. Update the details**

Click **Update information**, change the name, address or tax ID, and click **Save**.

The new details apply to the next invoice. Past invoices keep the details they were issued with.

## Invoices

Sevalla issues one invoice per billing period, on the 1st, for the previous period's usage. Each invoice has a line per billed product (for example Application compute, Database or Static site bandwidth), the credit applied, the tax and the total, and shows your company's name in the Sevalla Company field. Invoices under \$0.50 aren't charged.

To see or download invoices, click **Manage billing** on the **Billing** page. The portal's invoice history lists every invoice since May 1, 2026, with its status and a PDF of the invoice and the receipt.

### Historical invoices

Invoices created before May 1, 2026 aren't in the portal. They're on the **Billing** page, in the **Historical invoices** card, until the newest of them is 12 months old. Download the ones you need before then.

![The Historical invoices card with each invoice's number, status, creation date and amount, and buttons to view and download it](https://assets.sevalla.com/screenshots/light/company-billing-invoices.png)

The card lists each invoice's **Number**, **Status**, **Created** date and **Amount**, 10 per page. Click the eye icon to see an invoice's line items, tax, credits used, discount and grand total, or the download icon to save it as a PDF.

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Paid** | Charged successfully |
| **Processing** | The charge is in progress |
| **Unpaid** | Not paid yet |
| **Past due** | Not paid after its due date |
| **Failed** | The charge failed |
| **Refunded** | Paid, then refunded |
| **Forgiven** | Not collected |
| **Closed** | Closed without a payment |

## Delete the company

Deleting a company cancels its Sevalla subscription and charges the final balance right away; balances of \$1 or less are forgiven. Only the company owner can do it, from the **Danger zone** on the **Billing** page, after deleting every project and service. See [Companies](https://docs.sevalla.com/company/overview.md).
